Day 170 – Is the universe playing with me?

After my post yesterday about struggling I was looking through some workshop materials. About five years ago, I got certified for a questionnaire called the International Preferences Indicator, which helps people work more effectively in an international setting. In such a process one of the first things you do, of course, is fill in the questionnaire yourself. In reviewing the results and other information I came across one facet of my “international style” which they labeled “curious”. 🙂

Their definition of curious in this context: “People whose scores fall in the square typically see both sides of any argument and appreciate all the ways that different cultures may analyse issues and the different conclusion people may come to as a result. Their interest and curiosity in these diverse approaches may make it harder for them to reach decisions quickly and so reduce their ability to pursue and achieve pre-determined goals. Understanding and analysing issues in-depth may sometimes seem more important than pursuing simple objectives using the methods that they are familiar with.”

It seems that, after all, I have some facility for certain aspects of curiosity beyond desire-to-learn and mindful curiosity. And it also seems that curiosity can have, as discussed elsewhere, its downsides …
