This morning I was taking a walk with my hostess and managed to ask at least about the first step of the Ladder of Inference. We were talking about business, actually, and she simply said, “That’s why I founded a limited liability company” and I said (partly because it is a topic of some interest to me at the moment), “What did you see as the options?”
It’s a very small step indeed and to appreciate it you have to look at what I didn’t do instead: (a) I didn’t let the opportunity pass without saying anything and (b) I didn’t say “Oh, I know. I’ve been looking into that myself.”
And maybe that is what I need to do: Start small.
